Carson Tanner

Attorney

In the summer following his first year of law school, Carson moved from Florida to Bismarck to work at Braaten Law Firm as a summer intern. After graduating from the University of Wyoming with his law degree and a master’s in environment and natural resources, Carson practiced law in Sheridan, Wyoming with the law firm Yonkee & Toner, LLP. After practicing in Wyoming for two years, Carson served as a staff attorney (a.k.a. law clerk) for the Honorable Judge Andrew Atkinson, an appellate judge at the Second District Court of Appeal of Florida.

Practice Focus

Having spent a significant portion of his early life raising beef cattle and studying animal science Carson is excited to rejoin Braaten Law Firm and focus his practice on representing stakeholders in the agricultural industry and in rural communities. During his legal education, Carson emphasized building litigation skills and learning practice areas central to the practice of agricultural law, such as oil and gas law, water law, and land use law. To that effect, Carson enrolled in a dual degree program during law school specifically so that he would have the opportunity to write a thesis concerning wind wake effects and how the Wyoming Legislature should consider altering the Wyoming Wind Energy Rights Act to protect private property rights in wind energy development. Carson became a lawyer because he had the goal of representing hardworking agricultural families, and Carson looks forward to advocating for North Dakota stakeholders as he has previously done in Wyoming.
